Art San Diego, the county’s premier contemporary fine art show, is moving downtown to the San Diego Convention Center for its 11th annual show Oct. 10-13. The show moves from the Wyland Center at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, where it has been the past two years. Art San Diego, with presenting sponsor UBS Financial Services, is highly regarded in the industry for cutting-edge exhibitions and dynamic programmings like Art Labs, Art Talks, the LaunchPad Artist, Spotlight Program and the San Diego Art Prize.
“Art San Diego has emerged as one of the best-attended cultural events in Southern California and continues to grow annually,” said Linda Mariano, Redwood Media Group’s director of marketing. “San Diego is one of the nation’s most vibrant urban cities—and the convention center is at the core of all the action. We’re excited to offer attendees and exhibitors this great new location complimented by the vibrant downtown setting with a rich variety of restaurants, retail stores and world-class entertainment in mere walking distance.”
Founded in 2009 as the first and only contemporary art show in San Diego, Art San Diego is a four-day art event that features more than 500 leading contemporary artists and offers dynamic programming that includes museum exhibitions, Art Labs, events, and Art Talks focused on collecting. Now in its 11th year, the four-day event attracts more than 15,000 attendees, including high-net-worth collectors. Art San Diego provides a focus on San Diego’s vibrant and diverse cultural art scene alongside an exciting collection of international galleries and artists.
New programs introduced last year that are back by popular demand are Free Friday, Palette of Desserts and Access to Art. Friday offers free admission to anyone from 1-5 p.m. Palette of Desserts is a partnership with local chefs and bakeries who draw inspiration from an artist’s to-be-exhibited piece and create a dessert masterpiece to be sampled. Access to Art partners the visual arts with San Diego based nonprofits, resulting in a sizeable donation for each during the four-day event.
SD Pride Parade Hosted Over 275 Contingents, 300,000 spectators and sold a record-breaking number of festival tickets.
Lee and London was honored to volunteer our time and PR experience for the 46th annual San Diego Pride, led by our own Chloe Janda!
We’ve been implementing strategic PR tactics all year for the parade and festival, including earning coverage across hundreds of media platforms and creating social media posts about the 5K. Thanks to the awesome PR and impressive marketing team, Pride broke attendance records for the entire weekend. Yeah, you heard that right, we broke records! For the first time in 46 years of SD Pride the festival made over ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN TICKET SALE!
The parade showcased over 275 contingents marching and parade attendees included over 300,000 people flooding the streets from Hillcrest to Balboa Park honoring the Stonewall generation and celebrating their unified LGBTQ+ community. The parade spectators went up 50,000 from 2018! Pride events featured the diversity and achievements of indigenous, black, trans, military, and Latinx folx, highlighting the 50 years of accomplishments of the community and paying tribute to Stonewall’s 50th anniversary.
“I can’t think of a better way to gain experience in public relations while supporting the San Diego LGBTQ community,” said McKenzie Jester, PR intern. “We were proud to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ loved ones and acknowledging that this day is about them, their success, and their ongoing battles.”
The event packed week started on Saturday, July 6 with She Fest, a woman-centered event that celebrates and supports the talents and contributions of women, and ended on the festival main stage singing along to the infectious melodies of the rock icon and pioneer of queer rock music, Melissa Ethridge.
“To my LGBTQ fans in San Diego and around the world, I have so much to thank you for. You are proof that we can become the change we wish to see,” said Melissa Ethridge.
Sunday’s festivities include entertainment zones, local drag performances, community organizations and free community resources, youth organizations, dance areas, beverage gardens, visual art, vendor booths, educational and art exhibits, cultural presentations, free HIV testing, delicious food, and much more.
The music festival had over 50,000 attendees enjoying headlining acts King Princess, Mykki Blanco, Greyson Chance and RuPaul Drag Race Queen’s Aquaria, Asia O’Hara and Kim Chi. All proceeds from the festival and parade support San Diego Pride’s LGBTQ-centered philanthropy and year-round education and advocacy programs. The festival was unifying and celebratory for all in attendance. And just when we thought this week could not be more filled with kindness and love, we witnessed a marriage proposal!
We know how special San Diego is, but do you? Here’s what makes San Diego and SD Pride stand out among the rest. We are happy to report that San Diego was one of the only major cities across the world without any protests or any major incidents at the parade. Because SD is a city with a large military presence, integrating queer service members into the celebration was a must. At 9 a.m. on the morning of the Parade, 5K and Festival, history was made with a reenlistment ceremony of a trans service member of the Coast Guard, conducted by Major General Beevers in solidarity with the transgender community. During the parade, a 4 ship, F15 flyover from Cal Guard’s Fresno 144th Fighter Wing- another historic first- was conducted in honor of our transgender service members who bravely serve this country every day.
We watched transgender soldiers walk in unison, young children watch drag queens perform wide-eyed in amazement and parents line streets to hug LGBTQ youth to show they are not alone. While this week was long and draining at times, the impact these moments had on us was far more influential than any of us anticipated. It taught us lessons in kindness, work ethic and community unity. Lee and London is beaming with San Diego Pride!

We want to thank all of our clients for trusting us with their brand and ongoing support! Lee and London Public Relations would not be here without them. We are a team that strongly believes our success comes from the achievements of our clients and are honored and proud to be on this list.
I didn’t know what to expect working for a public relations firm this Summer. I had some ideas in mind…. maybe lots of writing? Social media blasts? Busy work? Running errands and getting coffee orders? Well, my first week on the job did include some of these, but it was far more exciting than I could have ever imagined. It didn’t include coffee runs, dry cleaning or answering phone calls. I was truly part of the Lee and London team and got hands-on experience from the creative and strong women behind L&L PR.
Lee and London was hired to provide PR support for the fifth annual ‘Sip the City,’ an event put on by the San Diego Urban Wineries (SDUW). SDUW is a coalition of wineries throughout San Diego County who take grapes from the country and create award-winning, unique wine in the city. My first week coincided with this wine tasting event L&L PR had been preparing for the past two months.
On my first day, I woke up at 5:50 a.m. (far earlier than any time I have woken up for class these past four years!) and met Corinne, a senior publicist, at Gianni Buonomo Vintners in Ocean Beach for a live FOX 5 segment with Tabitha Lipkin. We set up the back of the winery to display the bottles of different wines available at ‘Sip the City.’ We tasted a little wine and gave insight to the interviewees on different touchpoints to discuss on camera– I was feeling like a PR maven. If this is what public relations is like at L&L PR, COUNT ME IN!
My next work day was Friday, May 31st, the day of ‘Sip the City.’ I drove up to Seaport Village with a 6-by-7 carpet of artificial grass to help build and run the brainchild of L&L PR, the Rosé Garden. While we were not enlisted to produce the Rosé Garden, we became so obsessed with the idea that we ran with it! The Rosé Garden offered rosé tastings from 12 wineries at the event. After months of preparation, it was the L&L team’s turn to unWINE while we interns stepped up.
We poured, we drank (just a little obviously because we were working!) and we promoted the social media giveaway of four passports to San Diego Urban Wineries. The Rosé Garden gave people an opportunity to take pictures, sign up for the SDUW newsletter and drink rosé all day night!
I can’t promise every week will be like this with Lee and London, but my first week was wine I’ll never forget! Cheers!

When two automotive industry disruptors team up, only good things can happen. Just last week, our client nonda, the leader in app-enabled automotive accessories, and Carvana, a leading e-commerce platform for buying, financing and selling used cars, announced their partnership to provide users of nonda’s ZUS Connected Car System the ability to sell their vehicle or see its current sales value within the ZUS Smart Driving Assistant App (iOS/Android).
nonda’s 500,000 ZUS Smart Driving Assistant App users will be able to access the new feature in an upcoming update, bringing this additional service to more than 500,000 users.
We are excited to partner with Carvana to bring our customers this new tool, which eliminates a pain point of vehicle owners who have to search multiple sources to find out how much their vehicle is worth, then haggle with dealerships to agree on a purchase price. Now, customers will be able to easily view the value of their vehicle by inputting their VIN and mileage. Additionally, the ZUS Smart Driving Assistant App will provide real-time updates as the vehicle value changes over time, providing a simple and accurate estimate.
Ivan Chong, nonda VP of Global Sales
Carvana is equally excited about this new partnership and the opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands of potential customers.
“Carvana is known for being an easy, customer-centric car buying option, and selling cars to Carvana is just as easy,” said Carvana Chief Product Officer Dan Gill. “We’re looking forward to unlocking a whole new way for ZUS users to sell and value a car within their app.”
David and Nic Sheff’s heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival and recovery in a family coping with addiction inspired the film “Beautiful Boy” starring Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell. The film is based on Nic’s memoir “Tweak” and David’s memoir “Beautiful Boy,” both #1 New York Times best sellers.
Prior to their
appearance at the JCC, David and Nic Sheff were guests on KUSI and Fox 5 to talk
about their new book and inspiration behind it.
I’m a native of Los Angeles, but during my childhood I traveled down to San Diego often for softball tournaments. One place I remember extremely well is the Del Mar Plaza. I recall the market that sold all sorts of healthy snacks and fresh produce, and then there was a really funky store that had bedazzled clothing and funny gifts. So when Lee and London received a call that some women were opening a boutique at the Del Mar Plaza and were looking for PR support, I was totally on board!
When I arrived at the plaza, I could tell it wasn’t the same. The breathtaking views were still there but so much was gone. What was once the bustling focal point of Del Mar had changed from what I recalled as a teenager. When we sat down with our client, we learned the plaza had been neglected for years by owners who didn’t even live in the country. In 2017, Patricia Brutton and her husband Marc decided to change that and purchased the plaza, putting it under local ownership for the first time in 20 years.
Patty Brutton was on a mission to breathe life back into the plaza and restore it to its former glory and then some. But she wasn’t going to wait around for the types of businesses she wanted to come in, so she decided to open one herself. With the help of a couple of lifelong friends, they opened Sea Biscuit Del Mar, a boutique offering the latest in fashion trends, gorgeous gifts, personal styling and more.
In addition to the boutique, Kim Kelly Fit Studio was also going to be moving in. Kim is a well-known local trainer who had been traveling up and down the coast for over 10 years packing and unpacking her car for classes, bringing the fitness to her clients. Well it was finally time for the clients to come to her.
With two trendy businesses moving into the Del Mar Plaza, we decided our angle to the press would center on the revitalization of the plaza with Sea Biscuit and Kim Kelly Fit Studio leading the way. This was a textbook local press campaign.
Our quick three-month campaign produced media hits with a majority of our targeted press outlets.
Lifestyle public relations is fun in and of itself. But every so often you get those clients who appeal to a personal passion, and it’s like the stars align. For me, I love golf. I’ve been golfing for nearly 15 years, so needless to say, when TOMO came on board with Lee and London, I was ecstatic.
TOMO is a San Diego-based golf apparel company that launched its first product in 2018 – a fashionable, comfortable, eco-friendly, affordable and quality spikeless golf shoe designed to be worn to the golf course and beyond. They packed a lot of great stuff into this shoe!
Founder Sunny Chou discovered something after years on the course and some anecdotal research, which involved hanging out at the golf course passing out Gatorades and gathering insight and information from golfers about their shoes. He learned there really wasn’t a shoe out there that had it all. Sure some were comfortable and high quality, but often times those options were neither fashionable nor affordable. The ones that were affordable skimped on quality materials and so on. With that information, Sunny began a two-year process from concept to launch that we were proud to provide PR support for.
We had three main focuses for TOMO’s campaign – 1) Secure local press 2) Introduce the brand to national/international press 3) Gift the shoes to celebrities and secure influencer collaborations.
We tell every new client the same thing [when applicable] – start in your own backyard. There’s no better and easier place to garner press than in the city you are from. Luckily, San Diego is one of the best places in the world to golf, so we knew local press would certainly take note of a golf apparel company launching here. In addition to local press, we would begin introducing the product to national editors and reporters. Not surprisingly, launching a golf shoe in direct competition with the world’s biggest brands (Nike, Puma, etc) is no easy feat. But it’s vital to get the brand in front of these decision makers, so once the company has built credibility and a following, the editors are already familiar with the name. Lastly, products like this are perfect for influencer collaborations and celebrity gifting. Like most startups, there typically is no budget to pay for posts. While this can be difficult, it also offers the opportunity to get organic posts from people who actually love the product and aren’t just posting for money.
Below is a breakdown of the results of our campaign with TOMO.
TOMO was chosen as one of San Diego Magazine’s “Editor’s Picks” for its 2018 Christmas Gift Guide and was featured in print and online.
NY Mag’s blog The Strategist included TOMOs in one of its gift guides for golfers!
La Jolla Lifestyle featured the launch of TOMO in print for its November 2018 issue.
Celebrity Gifting + Influencer Partnerships
Actor Rory Scovel posts about TOMO.
Fresh off of starring in “I Feel Pretty,” we had our eye on Rory, who we knew loved to golf. We reached out to gift a pair and received a yes! Now, something to note with celebrity gifting – we never expect a post. We never expect anything. We gift hoping two things 1) If they love the product maybe they’ll post about it somewhere 2) If they wear them in public and get snapped by paparazzi, then we get to reach out to pubs and say “look who’s wearing these awesome golf shoes from our client TOMO!” So we were thrilled to see Rory make a post that was so supportive of the shoes!
Hollywood Men’s Stylist Andrew Weitz Gifts Shoes to Tom Brady
When TOMO came on board with us, they made it very clear they wanted customers to understand these shoes weren’t just to be worn on the course. If you look at other golf shoes, you’ll see pretty quickly they are lacking in the “style” department. Because of this, we reached out to influencers in the fashion space. Needless to say, we were ecstatic when Andrew Weitz, one of the most influential male stylists in Hollywood, not only responded asking for one pair, but eventually requested three to gift to his clients. And who was one of the men he was planning to gift a pair to? Tom. Brady. We may or may not be stalking Brady’s social sites and Getty to see if we’ll get lucky enough to catch him wearing them. While expecting a post from someone like Tom Brady is like expecting Tom Brady to choke in a major game, we’re beyond thrilled one of the most respected stylists in Hollywood loves the shoes enough to gift them to his major golfing clients.
By the end of our campaign, we gifted shoes to former Bachelor Ben Higgins, actors Gregg Sulkin and Rob Riggle.
Kenwavey, maker of hilarious golf videos, has become a huge fan of TOMOs, wearing them in a number of videos!
At the end of our campaign, we were pleased with the traction we received with press as well as the kinds of influencers and celebrities we were able to work with.
It’s almost the New Year and for many that means job hunting. College students will be entering their final semesters of senior year and will suddenly find themselves faced with the very real challenge of getting a good job after graduation. In PR, landing a good job can be difficult as the competition for the best jobs is fierce. To help aspiring PR pros land their dream gig, here are some things you can do to stand out from the crowd.
1. Get an internship, or two, or three- Most PR agencies will not consider you a “strong” applicant for an entry level postion unless you have had at least two (or even three) internships within the field. Learn all you can in your internships and show potential employers you’ve learned the basic PR skills, like navigating clipping services, producing coverage reports and building media lists. These tasks may seem basic, but they are time consuming to learn, and an internship is the best way to get familiar with programs like Cision, Burrelles, SproutSocial and Vocus.
2. Display strong writing skills– If you claim you’re a strong writer but have a typo in your cover letter, resume or writing samples, you’re not off to a good start. PR is a ton of writing and editing, so it’s important to show every potential employer that you can effectively use AP Style and edit your own work. Since it’s often harder to catch your own errors (that’s why even the best reporters have editors), always have a friend or classmate proofread your resume, cover letter AND the body of your e-mail.
3. Pay attention– When you’re job hunting you may send out your resume and cover letter to a large amount of companies, meaning you should always be editing your work before hitting send. It’s embarrassing and down right insulting to read about how passionate you are about getting a job at a different company. Always know who you are sending your materials to and write specifically for them.
4. Forego teen speech– For many young adults it’s easy to get caught up using adolescent language. Whether you are networking or interviewing, it’s always important to speak like a grown up. This means avoiding: um, like, totally, definitely, uh huh and all abbreviations. (I know, right?….) Speak like a child and people will treat you like one, speak like an adult to earn respect. At our office we recently created a “fer” jar. Every time you say “fer” instead of “for” you put 5 cents in the jar. It’s a great reminder to pay attention to the vocabulary we use, and of course the plus side is that we never have a shortage of change for afternoon coffee runs to Starbucks.
5. Get social– Knowing how to use social media correctly is huge in public relations; it’s how we connect to our audiences. If you don’t have a LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook get them now! Many PR employers won’t even consider you if your Instagram, Twitter and Facebook aren’t actively used.
6. Learn to network– Sometimes it IS all about who you know. Landing a great job doesn’t always require sending your resume to every agency under the sun. The best way to find a job is to find people who can help find you a job. Having a referral, even if it’s someone who met you once at an event, will give you instant credibility and often will earn you an interview ahead of someone else.
7. Get Involved in PRSA/ New Pros– A follow up to #6. Join your local chapter of PRSA (Public Relations Society of America). We asked current PRSA San Diego President Reema Makani Boccia why job hunters should be involved with PRSA and here’s what she had to say:
“The most important thing PRSA facilitates for its members is the opportunity to establish and foster relationships with other PR professionals, media and the community at large. As the largest trade organization for PR pros nationally and locally, PRSA has the potential to expose its members to a whole network of professionals that they may not otherwise have access to. The more you get involved, the more you get out of it, and perhaps make a few friends along the way!”
8. Business cards– Never attend a networking event empty handed; no one will know how to contact you. Some employers forget their business cards or run out before you have a chance to capture their info. So take the initiative and make your own cards (Staples and Office Depot offer pre-perforated business card templates that work with most printers), it won’t go unnoticed.
9. Follow-up– PR is a competitive field and jobs move quickly. Following up with potential employers is key to landing the job. Don’t wait two weeks to inquire about a position or send a thank-you letter a month after an interview. You need to act fast and prove that you really want the job. That means an e-mail the same day (or definitely within 24 hours) and if you really want to stand out, send a handwritten thank-you card in the mail the moment you leave the interview. They’ll get it the next day and be amazed by your planning and professionalism.
10. Read and read some more– Read anything and everything: newspapers, magazines, novels, autobiographies, etc. Whether you read “Lord of the Rings” or “Twilight,” sharpening your mind through reading will keep you up-to-date on current events, make you smarter, and best of all, will make you a better writer.

On the weekend of July 13, our very own Chloe Janda volunteered her time to run the San Diego LGBT Pride PR campaign for the second year in a row. San Diego Pride is a nonprofit organization that sponsors a weekend long celebration, fostering pride and respect for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Chloe volunteers her time and PR expertise to this organization and is passionate about social justice. As the PR manager, she helped facilitate dozens of media hits and news coverage for San Diego Pride.
San Diego Pride attracted about 300,000 people this year, increasing the attendance record by 40 percent. The three-day summer party included the San Diego Pride Parade, which is the one of the largest Pride parade in the United States. Other events included a music festival with performances by JoJo an TLC, a 5K run/walk, a rally with inspiration speakers and LGBTQ leaders, and the She Fest, a woman-centered event supporting the contributions of women in the community.
Chloe started volunteering for San Diego Pride in 2015. She minored in ethnic studies at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, which sparked her interest in social justice and equality.
When the PR manager position opened at San Diego Pride, she jumped at the opportunity to pair her passion and profession.
“I feel very lucky and privileged to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and being able to give back through volunteering my public relation skills,” said Chloe. “San Diego Pride is something I look forward to every year because I am always learning and reveling in the strength and pride of the community.”
WildAid, a wildlife conservation group working to end the illegal wildlife trade and the poaching of elephant ivory, shark fins and rhino horn, has partnered with the filmmakers of Jurassic World, as well as star Bryce Dallas Howard, to produce a PSA campaign helping to save the endangered rhinoceros from extinction.
Shot on location during the production of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the PSA features Howard alongside the Sinoceratops—one of the incredible new dinosaurs featured in the film.
Although dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago, the fate of the rhinoceros is firmly in human hands. While many endangered species are threatened due to loss of habitat to human expansion, African rhinos are solely threatened by demand for their horns for cures and carvings in China and Vietnam. There are fewer than 30,000 individuals of the five surviving rhino species left, and in March, the last male Northern White rhino, Sudan, passed away.
WildAid’s rhino campaign, featuring Jackie Chan, Yao Ming, Li Bingbing, Sir Richard Branson, Prince William, David Beckham, Maggie Q and a host of prominent Asian stars, has helped to raise awareness and reduce demand for rhino horn. In the last three years, the price of rhino horn has fallen from $65,000 a kilo to around $22,000 a kilo. In Vietnam, rhino horn sales have been banned and awareness about the product has increased over the past few years: A 2016 campaign survey in Vietnam showed that just 23% of respondents believe rhino horn has medicinal effects compared with 69% in 2014, a 67% decline. Only 9.4% of respondents believe rhino horn can cure cancer, down from 34.5% in 2014, a 73% decline.

We are excited to be working with our new client, Fluent Forever, a modern guide to learning new languages quickly and efficiently. While immersion is one way to learn a language, most people cannot devote that much of their lives to learning a new language. Fluent Forever provides a practical way to learn a new language from a memory standpoint.
Founder, Gabriel Wyner, studied a foreign language in high school, and like many people, left school without a strong memory of what he’d studied. As an opera singer, Gabriel’s craft involves singing in many different languages. He pursued a master’s degree in singing in Vienna and while there became interested in learning languages. He is now fluent in eight languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian, Hungarian and Japanese.
Gabriel saw many different language learning methods and was inspired to bring them all together to help people learn foreign languages faster. His three keys to learning a foreign language are 1: no translation, 2: learn accurate pronunciation first and 3: computerized flash card programs are a massive shortcut to memorization.
Within Fluent Forever’s first 6 days, it became the most funded app Kickstarter of all time. The Fluent Forever app allows you to take your language learning journey to the next level.
They say a glass of wine a day keeps doctor away. Although at Vintage Hollywood, there was probably more than just one glass…
On June 9, Vintage Hollywood raised more than $200,000 at its annual food and wine tasting event, benefiting The People Concern, one of LA’s largest nonprofits fighting homelessness.
The fundraiser could not have come at a better time, as LAHSA just released the homeless count report. For the first time in four years, homelessness decreased. These kinds of events and support are what help organizations like The People Concern continue the fight against homelessness.
The event featured the trendiest California wineries and restaurants. Celebrities including Nichelle Nichols, David Arquette, Christina McLarty, Teri Hatcher and more came out to celebrate The People Concern’s 15-year community partnership with the Junior League of Los Angeles.
Stanley Black and Family hosted the unique and memorable event, including more than 30 of California’s most popular wineries and restaurants. Winemakers and proprietors poured their own wines on site, allowing guests to sip on a glass with the brains behind the bottles. In addition to the delicious wine and fare, there was live entertainment and a digital silent auction.
“We are grateful the Vintage Hollywood Foundation believes in the work we do so much that they chose us as the benefactor for this incredible event,” said John Maceri, executive director of The People Concern.
About The People Concern
One of Los Angeles County’s largest social services agencies, The People Concern is working to end homelessness through its proven approach that focuses on housing first with wraparound services. The People Concern provides a fully integrated system of care – including outreach, housing services, mental and medical health care, substance abuse services, life skills, and wellness programs – tailored to the unique needs of homeless individuals and victims of domestic violence. Ninety-five percent of those in housing supported with wraparound retention services will never be homeless again. This innovative evidence-based model has been proven in communities throughout Los Angeles County and recognized and replicated across the country.
About Vintage Hollywood Foundation
The Vintage Hollywood foundation was formed to raise funds to support charitable organizations, both large and small, that work to promote the health and well-being of Southern California’s diverse community. Since 2002, the Vintage Hollywood event has raised more than $3,500,000 to benefit organizations including Children’s Action Network, JDRF, Save the Children, United Friends of Children, OPCC and The People Concern.
Lee and London is very excited to announce that The People Concern hosted the Inaugural “Celebrating Change” gala! The People Concern is a nonprofit organization striving to end homelessness in Los Angeles. All money raised at the gala will go directly toward helping the homeless in Los Angeles by providing services like mental health care, housing services, domestic violence services, life skills, income assistance, medical care and outreach.
The “Celebrating Change” gala took place on April 29 at Casa Vertigo in downtown Los Angeles. The gala celebrated more than 55 years of life-saving work and had the attendance and support of several celebrities including David Arquette, Greg Germann, Marcia Cross, Seth Green, Kymberly Marciano-Strauss and Annabeth Gish. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a sit down three-course dinner were provided and KTLA’s Sam Rubin even made an appearance with live entertainment.
The People Concern Executive Director John Maceri honored Steven K. Jones and made a special presentation in memory of William Keck, Jr. and the impact he made on not only The People Concern but also on the Los Angeles community.
Congratulations to The People Concern for the money they raised and their amazing efforts in helping the homeless in Los Angeles.

Every year during the Superbowl we here at Lee and London look forward to the best part of the game: the commercials. This year was a pretty good year for commercials, with many standout ads from Tide and M&Ms to the NFL’s “Dirty Dancing” remake with Giants QB Eli Manning and WR Odell Beckham. We all sat down with coffee this morning and took a poll and this year our unequivocal favorite commercial was the hilarious ‘Alexa Loses Her Voice.’ What can we say, we love us some Cardi B.
Take a look at some of this year’s top ads and tell us your favorite!
I don’t know what we’re more excited about: Trace Adkins, 38 Special or Thunder from Down Under! Lucky for us, we may have a connection or two (wink, wink) so we can make it to all of these incredible concerts at Casino Pauma. Their new Entertainment venue is amazing – state-of-the-art sound and lighting to boot.
<<< Did you hear the news?? VELVET is back!!! For those of you who are obsessed with the cozy, luxurious fabric – 2018 is off to a great start as velvet is topping lists of trends for the New Year. Along with velvet — and bold, rich colors — prepare to see geometric everything: pillows, rugs, wallpaper, and everything in between. I’m also super excited about the return to rich textures, multi-layered spaces and the combining of design styles: French plus a little Country with some Eclectic sprinkled in? Yes please! And as someone who rearranges her furniture on a monthly basis because I get bored easily, mixing and matching are a necessity for me, regardless of whether it’s en vogue at the moment.

Client World Skateboarding Federation began it’s 2017 Africa Skate Project program in South Africa this week, which reaches out to kids in poor areas to offer free skate clinics and mentoring. In addition, WSF gave away complete decks to the kids in attendance. Over the next few months over 100 decks will be given to kids at ASP stops across South Africa.
Skateboarding has been shown to keep kids off the street and away from crime. It develops positive traits including perseverance and creativity. The South African government has been active in seeking to expand the opportunities to expose kids to skateboarding.
The largest success story to demonstrate this concept is the Kumba Skate Plaza in Kimberley which was built to house the World Skateboarding Championships and then to serve as a year-round free public skate park. Studies by researchers at area universities as to the skate park’s impact have been overwhelmingly positive. To keep up to date with WSF news and activities, follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

The first shoot was for a gorgeous traditional kitchen in La Jolla and the second shoot was a whole home (and barn) in Escondido.

As you pore over your website’s traffic and advertising analytics, what is your most important metric?
If it’s conversions and sales, then remarketing is a powerful tool to add to your belt.
Remarketing is, very simply, advertising targeted at people who have already visited your website or used your application. Remarketing is often more effective in key metrics such as click-through rate and conversions than standard online display advertising. On a base level this is logical since one is targeting people who have already shown some level of interest in one’s company and/or products. But the statistics also bear this out.
Within remarketing, the targeting can be broad (anyone visiting a site) or narrow (people who viewed an individual product or page) allowing the advertiser options in how they want to grab those lost customers. As an example of wide targeting, one can offer discounts or incentives to lure back first time visitors. And on the narrow side, one can remind the visitor of the product they showed interest in while providing a quick way back to that product. This greatly increases the chances of the sale being made. With these factors as well as being cost effective to begin with, the ROI on remarketing outpaces standard online advertising every time.
There are quite a few advertising platforms out there offering remarketing but Google and Facebook are of course the biggest players with the largest advertising networks by far. The fact that they both have excellent, easy to utilize, tools to accomplish remarketing goals just adds to their advantage over others.

Stuck in an uneventful and stagnate job? Do you catch yourself saying, “I HAVE to stay here ’til 5:00,” or “I GET to stay here ’til 5:00.” Okay, well maybe the word “get” is a little exaggerated, but the point is understood.

Surfers of different styles, language, race, age and skill will grab their sticks and head down to their local watering hole in celebratory fashion. More than 30 countries this year will attend parties, contests, fundraisers, film screenings and educational beach clean-ups all in the name of honoring the past, present and future of surfing.

Skateboarding World ChampionshipsReturn to South Africa Oct. 7-10
For the first time, top finishers of international and U.S. contests, including Dew Tour, X Games, U.S. Skateboarding Championships and Street League, to earn spots in World Championships
(Sacramento, Calif. – February 24, 2015) – World Skateboarding Grand Prix (WSGP) announced today that Kimberley, South Africa will once again host the Skateboarding World Championships, October 7-10, 2015. Thirty-eight countries and 250 skateboarders competed at last year’s event where Brazilian Kelvin Hoeffler beat some of the top names in skateboarding including Nyjah Huston, Tommy Fynn and Louie Lopez, to claim the world champion street title and a piece of skateboarding’s largest prize purse: $500,000.
This year’s Skateboarding World Championships are expected to draw the largest international field of any skate contest in history, with skaters from at least 50 countries expected to compete in five world championship events, including the Women’s Street Championships, Vert Championships, Big Air Championships, Rider Cup Team Championships and Men’s Street Championships.
This year for the first time, the Skateboarding World Championships will extend invitations to the top finishers of notable international contests like the Mystic Cup, Copenhagen Pro, the Turkish Skateboarding Championships, Bryggeriet Malmo and others around the world. Top finishers from U.S. contests, including X Games, Dew Tour, U.S. Skateboarding Championships and Street League, will also earn spots in the Skateboarding World Championships.
The 2015 Skateboarding World Championships will be held at the Kimberley Diamond Cup presented by Kumba Iron Ore, which runs from Wednesday, October 7 – Saturday, October 10 in Kimberley, South Africa. The vert and street contests are held at the permanent, state-of-the-art Kumba Skate Plaza that was built for the contests and subsequently donated to the community. The Plaza saw more than 14,000 visitors in 2014, not including the over 20,000 who attended last year’s five-day Kimberley Diamond Cup and Skateboarding World Championship events.
The World Skateboarding Federation (WSF) has sanctioned the World Skateboarding Championships and will provide financial assistance to help pay for travel expenses for skaters in countries without government, corporate or federation support.
In the U.S., it’s typically the sponsors who pay for the skateboarders to travel, but in the rest of the world it doesn’t work that way, according to Tim McFerran, CEO of World Skateboarding Grand Prix, who is also on the board of the newly created World Skateboarding Federation.
“It became evident to us last year that there is a lack of organization, funding and resources in many countries in getting their top skateboarders to international events,” McFerran said. “We are still in the beginning stages of developing a worldwide contest circuit that feeds into one final, year-end cumulative contest, the Skateboarding World Championships, and we have made amazing progress and received worldwide support for what we are trying to do. In addition to the international, country, regional and the invite-only U.S. contests, we anticipate that we will have at least 50 countries represented in the Skateboarding World Championships in South Africa this year. If you’re a top skater in your country then you deserve to be in the world championships, and with the support of the World Skateboarding Federation we will ensure you are able to get to South Africa to represent your country.”
Turkish skateboarder Cenk Kulioglu was one of 35 international skaters who received financial assistance for travel expenses from the World Skateboarding Federation in order to compete in last year’s Skateboarding World Championships.
“I was chosen from Turkey, to go to South Africa to participate in the Kimberley Diamond Cup in 2014. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had,” said Kulioglu. “WSGP puts on the biggest contests in the world and has the biggest prize purse. The format is the best and most exciting in skateboarding. When I got there I realized how professional a skateboard contest can be. Everything was perfect. It was always my childhood dream to take part in a contest this big. To be part of the Skateboarding World Championships and to have it broadcasted around the world was a dream come true. I’d like to say thanks to World Skateboarding Federation for making it possible for me to be there!”
In addition to providing funding for top skaters to get to major events like the Skateboarding World Championships, WSF is also committed to providing leadership and direction, to link up with and establish national skateboarding federations and assist with building quality skate parks around the world.
World Skateboarding Grand Prix is the global leader in skateboarding event management. WSGP hosts world-class skateboarding events globally with a commitment to help stimulate local economies through tourism and support youth development, especially those in underserved or impoverished communities. Introducing Sikk Shades®: The New Standard in Performance Eyewear
Flash Electric™ Lens Technology Outperforms Polarized, Gives Athletes Clearer Vision and Better Depth Perception; Perfectly Balanced Frame Offers Better Fit and Embedded Non-Slip Nose Grip for All Day Wear
(Houston, TX—February 26, 2015)Sikk Shades® – a new line of performance eyewear for the action sports market – officially launches today. Developed by former Pro BMX Rider Eddie Bauer Jr., along with some of the industry’s top eyewear designers, Sikk Shades’ flagship frames, the Huckleberry and Qualifier (starting at $119.99) are now available online and in select retailers nationwide. Created specifically for athletes, and designed to withstand harsh weather and extreme conditions, Sikk Shades offer clearer vision and better depth perception than traditional polarized glasses, as well as a better fit and a non-slip, embedded nose grip for all-day wear and comfort.
Sikk Shades’® lenses utilize Flash Electric™ technology, which blocks short-wave light – the harmful light that leads to eye damage – and allows ample amounts of long-wave light in. This allows the wearer to avoid the distortion and depth perception issues common in most polarized lenses, while providing clear and unobstructed vision, a huge advantage if you’re on the track or hitting the slopes.
Each pair of Sikk Shades® features a non-slip nose grip embedded into the frame, keeping the glasses securely in place while athletes sweat, experience extreme weather and manage harsh terrain. The durable frames are made by one of Italy’s most respected, independent eyewear manufacturers and are perfectly balanced and weighted to fit better, without the painful pressure points behind the ear – allowing for all day wear and comfort.
“As a former pro BMX/Motorcross racer, I was frustrated by the polarized sunglasses I was wearing constantly distorting my vision, giving off that weird prism effect and causing depth perception issues – something that’s particularly problematic when you’re skating, snowboarding, riding motocross or BMX,” said Eddie Bauer Jr., founder and CEO of Sikk Shades®. “I started doing research to find an alternative to polarized lenses and found Flash Electric™ technology was the perfect solution. It outperforms polarized in virtually every aspect, providing superior vision while also letting in fewer damaging UV rays. From there, we developed the perfectly weighted and balanced frames, which eliminate the pressure points behind the ears and offer a very comfortable fit. We also embedded the nose grip right into the frame. We’ve had the glasses tested by our friends and colleagues in the industry and they’ve received incredible reviews. We’re excited to launch what we believe will be the new standard in performance eyewear for the action sports industry.”
Sikk Shades® has assembled an impressive roster of up-and-coming athletes from skate, surf, snow, BMX and motocross to test its flagship frames and to serve as brand ambassadors, including:
Surf: Paul Pluey, Vanina Walsh
Skate: Daniel Cuervo, Jose Cheese Chevalo
Snow: Ian Kuhn, Phil Smage, Jason Lozzi, Aaron Lozzi and Brandon Heitzenrater
Olympians: Lucas Mata (Australian bobsled team) and Mirela Rahneva (Olympian skeleton racer for Team Canada)
Motocross: Craig Robertson, Austin Politelli and Dylan French
BMX: Justin Carson (5-time Colorado State Champion)
Auto: Austin Ford and Kyle Keenan

Ok, fine, it was a BABY lion…but it still stung pretty good and left an awesome bruise!
So why was I in Africa? I was there with our client World Skateboarding Grand Prix, the leading global skate events management company, which runs the Skateboarding World Championships that were held in 2014 at the Kimberley Diamond Cup in the former diamond-mining town of Kimberley, South Africa (Phew! That was a long sentence…)
It was my third visit to South Africa, but it was the first time I was able to visit the townships and interact with the local kids at the skate clinics we hosted. It was an incredible experience to witness how something as simple as a board with four wheels can positively affect so many lives. World Skateboarding added a women’s event to the championships this year and some of the top female skateboarders –Elissa Steamer, Lacey Baker, Alexis Sablone, Kat Williams, Marisa Dal Santo and Alana Smith — visited two townships outside Kimberley to give skate clinics to the local kids. Hundreds of kids flocked to the dirt lot where we set up a makeshift skate park and it was incredible to see how many young girls quickly jumped on the boards and showed no fear.
For the first time, 37 countries had skaters represented in the world championships and I got the chance to meet some of the best from around the world: Nassim Guammaz from the Netherlands, Tommy Fynn from Australia, Tom Knox from the UK, and of course Nyjah Huston from the US (I actually met Nyjah for the first time back in 2009 at the Maloof Money Cup in Orange County when he was 14 years old and had long dreadlocks — I’ll never forget him tearing up when he placed second to Chris Cole after coming back from behind and ending the contest with a PERFECT run. He has come a long, long way since then) — there were so many rad skaters there that you don’t see every day. And superstar rapper/mogul Lil Jon was on hand to perform at the closing night concert, featuring the biggest bands from South Africa and an incredible fireworks show. It was hands-down the best skate contest I’ve personally ever seen. We’re really excited to have such an incredible client in World Skateboarding Grand Prix, and we admire their commitment to make a difference in the lives of youth around the world. We can’t wait for 2015 — we’ve got some exciting announcements we’ll be making soon, so stay tuned!!!!!
Check out the photo gallery below to see some photos from the trip.
Well, it was fun while it lasted… But as of November 5, 2014, Facebook is banning the much-loved practice of “like-gating.” No more forcing people to “like” your page to win a prize pack. Now they’ll just have to like you because of your winning personality (also your awesome customer service and great products).
So what CAN you require users to do in order to enter a contest. Here are a few ideas:
1) You can have them subscribe to your blog. You don’t have a blog? Maybe now is a good time to think about whether it makes sense for your brand. While it takes great content that is interesting to your audience and goes beyond your product offerings and pure marketing messaging, it can be a very effective communications channel. Other great reasons to have a blog is to utilize as a means to reach your customers in times of crisis and also to enhance your visibility on search engines which are constantly crawling for new content.
2) You can still “Like-gate” on other sites, including Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
3) Ask for an e-mail address to build your customer database. Whether for newsletters, new product announcements, upcoming events or partner offers, it’s important that companies build a customer database.

Google Advertising’s varied platforms provide advertisers with an enormous reach as well as mountains of data with which to assess their ad campaigns. Click-through rates, Cost Per Click, and average rank are a few examples of the analytical tools included in Google Advertising platforms. These tools can help you measure the effectiveness of your campaigns while managing your budget. But you may be missing an important part of the picture if you fail to link your Google Advertising to your Analytics.
Google Analytics provides information such as bounce rate, average visit duration and pages per session. While the other 2 tools mentioned are self explanatory, your bounce rate is a measurement of users who came to your page then left without visiting another page or performing an action. All of this data aids in measuring individual ad, keyword or total campaign performance beyond the initial draw. This can also help you assess the landing page in which you are directing users.
Analytics can also provide demographic information such as age, gender and the interests of ad responders. This is valuable in both assessing current and past campaigns as well as planning future ones. It helps answer the questions of who your audience is and whether they match your target.
Linkage is relatively simple with Google’s assistance and the additional data can make a difference in wisely managing your marketing dollars.

Qualifying Events to be held in Multiple US Cities Beginning June 2015; Winners of US Championships Earn Trip to 2015 World Skateboarding Championships
(Sacramento, Calif. – August 19, 2014) – World Skateboarding Grand Prix (WSGP) announced today it will expand in the US next summer, bringing at least three qualifying events to cities across the US, culminating in the first-ever US Skateboarding Championships.
The events will include an individual street style contest as well as the Rider Cup team contest. The individual winners and the winning Rider Cup team will earn trips to compete in the 2015 World Skateboarding Championships.
The official location and dates will be announced in the coming months as WSGP seeks qualified bids from cities in the US, split into four geographic areas.
An unprecedented 70 countries were invited to send their best skaters to this year’s Skateboarding World Championships in Kimberley, South Africa Oct. 2-5 where an expected 250 skateboarders will compete for the $500,000 prize purse. The location for the 2015 World Championships will be named by the end of the year.
“We are excited about the expansion into the US market. It’s been 20 years since a national skateboarding contest was held here, and with the growth of skateboarding globally, it only makes sense to bring a true national championship to the US. We’ll be utilizing the same fast-paced format that we’ve become known for, so we anticipate a very competitive series,”said Tim McFerran, president of World Skateboarding Grand Prix.
East Coast Skate Legend Steve Rodriguez, who recently produced the Rider Cup NYC series for WSGP, says the US championship will be a welcome addition to competitive skateboarding.
“A truly inclusive championship-level event here in the US is the logical evolution of contest skating,” said Rodriguez. “To have both an individual and team championship is a really progressive concept. WSGP is known for exciting head-to-head contests that constantly push the skaters to elevate their skating, which in turn makes for a better contest atmosphere.”
