World Skateboarding Federation Donates Decks to South African Youth

Client World Skateboarding Federation began it’s 2017 Africa Skate Project program in South Africa this week, which reaches out to kids in poor areas to offer free skate clinics and mentoring. In addition, WSF gave away complete decks to the kids in attendance. Over the next few months over 100 decks will be given to kids at ASP stops across South Africa.

Skateboarding has been shown to keep kids off the street and away from crime.  It develops positive traits including perseverance and creativity. The South African government has been active in seeking to expand the opportunities to expose kids to skateboarding.

The largest success story to demonstrate this concept is the Kumba Skate Plaza in Kimberley which was built to house the World Skateboarding Championships and then to serve as a year-round free public skate park. Studies by researchers at area universities as to the skate park’s impact have been overwhelmingly positive.  To keep up to date with WSF news and activities, follow them on Twitter and Facebook.
